On-The-Air: "FOX & Friends"

Live TV is very unpredictable. Segments can get cancelled, rescheduled, or shortened last-minute due to breaking news.

Despite the busy news morning at “FOX & Friends” today, I was still able to share a variety of last-minute gift ideas you can wear, watch, eat, or play. We covered everything you see on this table in just over two minutes - check out the full segment below!

Holiday Gift Guide: Fun and Games

Chances are your holiday gift list includes at least a few toys and games for children of all ages.

This month, I have had a great time showing fun toys and games for the entire family on my holiday gift tour! The TV segments, and this post, are sponsored by featured companies.

With more than 200 million people (!) playing Fortnite, chances are at least one of them is on your gift list. GameStop has a Deep Freeze Bundle that includes the Battle Royale Game, along with premium content and extras that give you a competitive edge. At GameStop’s Game Days sale, which is going on through Christmas, you can also save on everything from Xbox One consoles to new and pre-owned games that make perfect stocking stuffers.

It’s hard to believe that this year marks the 50th anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. To celebrate - and support PBS programming - PBS has a variety of gifts, including a Mister Rogers Sweater-Changing Mug (he changes from his suit jacket into a sweater when you pour in a hot beverage!) and your very own Neighborhood Trolley

To inspire creativity without adding screen time, i love these Dress-Me Notepads from Little Biscuits. These are perfect for budding fashionistas who can create their own outfits, and provide space for children to dream and draw themselves as anything they can imagine!

Finally, for surprising finds at amazing prices, check out the toy section at Marshalls. Among other things, they have one of this year’s most popular toys - squishy play foam - that will keep kids busy for hours, with no mess!

Holiday Gift Guide: Food and Wine

We live in a small apartment in Manhattan. It’s the kind of place that whenever you buy something new, something else has to go.

Living in tiny spaces for more than 20 years has made me especially sensitive to the fact that many people really prefer gifts that, as my dad says, “you don’t have to dust.” When that is the case, food and wine gifts are usually just the ticket!

Here are a few tasty gift ideas I am sharing on TV segments this season. These segments, and this post, are sponsored by featured companies:

  • The yummy Tasteful Gift Combo from Omaha Steaks includes filet mignons, top sirloins, boneless pork chops, potatoes au gratin, and caramel apple tartlets - and it ships for free!

  • I love stocking up on wine for hostess gifts or whenever you need to come up with a special last-minute gift. For those who enjoy red wine, St. Francis Reserve Zinfandel is a full-bodied red that pairs nicely with holiday fare such as roasted meats and hearty appetizers. One of my favorite white wines for gifting (and enjoying) is Sequoia Grove Napa Valley Chardonnay, a versatile wine that pairs well with everything from appetizers through main courses. The crispness of this wine is also a nice match for creamy holiday dishes such as buttery mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Of course, packaging up the wines in gorgeous gift boxes or bags makes the gift even more special.

  • Novice and experienced cooks alike will love an assortment of San-J Asian Cooking Sauces. They are easy to find in grocery stores, and can be used for marinades, stir-fries, dipping, and more. I especially love the Orange Sauce and Thai Peanut Sauce, which we use to sauce meats and vegetables. Since they are also gluten-free and kosher, they are suitable for many people on your list.

  • Giving the gift of time - in the form of restaurant gift cards - may also be just what someone needs. Plus, when you buy $50 in gift cards from Red Lobster this season, you get a $10 bonus card you can use for yourself in January!

On-the-Air: Los Angeles

Each year, we put up our Christmas tree before Halloween. This year, it went up on October 14.

I also start working early in the season on our main family holiday gift: the annual Sewell Family Yearbook, a photo book that I have created for the last eight years.

This year, with Thanksgiving falling very early, I am getting an early start on sharing holiday gift guide segments as well. Here are a few of the items I showed this morning on KCAL-TV in Los Angeles. The segment and this post are sponsored by the featured companies.

Techie Holiday Gifts

If you follow this blog or my Instagram, you know that I rarely write much about tech items - mainly because so many other people do so.

But that doesn't mean I don't love a good gadget, so when my producer at CBS Los Angeles asked me to put together a holiday tech gift guide for his show, I jumped at the chance!  As luck would have it, the segment was scheduled for opening day of "The Last Jedi" - so I set out to find a few fun Star Wars gifts to include with other items.

Like most other things I show on TV or write about here, I am all about things that are practical - stuff that is actually useful in everyday life - and not just flashy.   Here are a few items from today's segment, which was sponsored by the featured companies:
