I always knew that I wanted to live in New York. The cute apartments, stylish clothes and bustling streets shown in Seventeen, Glamour and other magazines I read while growing up in Missouri made it look like an exciting place. Besides, I don’t like to drive, so New York City and I seemed like a perfect match.
Since landing here, and starting Shop with Style in 2006, I have enjoyed exploring the fun and quirkiness of being a southern transplant in Manhattan. Those observations are shared on this blog, along with a behind-the-scenes look at morning shows, what I'm talking about on television, travel tales, and the adventures of cooking and entertaining in a small New York City apartment.
As much as I love my adopted city, I never miss the chance to hop on a plane, either for work or to explore the world with my husband Scott. When at home in the relatively quiet, residential Yorkville neighborhood, we enjoy hosting dinner parties and Sunday lunches, strolling through parks and having long conversations over breakfast at neighborhood diners.
I have appeared as a lifestyle expert on NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CW, CNN, Bravo, Oxygen and The Hallmark Channel, and regularly represent companies and products on national and local morning shows.
I have done hundreds of segments on these shows, with topics as varied as entertaining on a budget, wine pairing, affordable fashion trends, drugstore beauty buys, gift-giving etiquette, finding the perfect gift and how to save money on everyday purchases.
On this StyleWise blog and on television, "living well within your means" is my guiding philosophy. I only show or write about affordable, accessible things I would buy for myself or others. Whatever the topic, everything comes back to identifying your style and only buying things you can afford. In my book, style is truly individual, and is not about copying other people or buying into every trend.
